Joomla: Typography Plugin

Praktischer Helfer für Joomla Redakteure: JB Type.

Thanks to Ryan Demmer, the developer of the amazing Joomla content editor (JCE) we now have a JCE plugin that will render the styles used by JB Type directly into the content editor window.

In the past if you wanted to use JB Type there was no way of seeing the end result without hitting apply and then navigating to the front end of your website. This JCE plugin is the missing link for the JB Type plugin and will change the way that you style your content.

Hyphenator.js

Automatische Wortumbrüche am Zeilenende sind im Web eher problematisch. Zwar gibt es ­ aber damit will man seinen Text ja nun auch nicht vollstopfen. Gerade ist mir Hyphenator.js über den Weg gelaufen:

• automatically hyphenates texts on websites if either the webdeveloper has included the script on the website or you use it as a bookmarklet on any site.
• runs on any modern browser that supports JavaScript and the soft hyphen (­).
• automatically breaks URLs on any browser that supports the zero width space.
• runs on the client in order that the HTML source of the website may be served clean and svelte and that it can respond to text resizings by the user.
• supports a wide range of languages.

Web Typography

The Design Cubicle demonstriert an Hand der A List Apart’s Website das Typografie mehr ist als @font-face.

Instead of focusing this article on choosing a typeface or what makes a quality font, I thought it would be better to focus on something indirectly related, yet thought about, but never enough: Space. Whitespace, negative space, however you deam it, makes for good typography.

Gerade als Nicht-Designer finde ich das ganz spannend auf solche Details aufmerksam gemacht zu werden.

Web Typography

Obwohl, oder gerade weil ich kein Designer bin finde ich Artikel zu Web Typography immer spannend.

Modern versions [of HTML], however, have support for a lot of features (still not all of them!) that make great typography, but authors and designers have formed bad habits by making websites using older formats and standards. This has got to change.
