jQuery Fun

Das zweit Plugin ist Arctext.js – Curving Text with CSS3 and jQuery.

While CSS3 allows us to rotate letters, it is quite complicated to arrange each letter along a curved path. Arctext.js is a jQuery plugin that let’s you do exactly that. Based on Lettering.js, it calculates the right rotation of each letter and distributes the letters equally across the imaginary arc of the given radius.

Technical Web Typography

Harry Roberts erklärt im Smashing Magazine Typografie Regeln.

Technical typography is like type theory; certain rules and practices apply to party invitations just as well as they do to obituaries. These are little rules that always hold, are proven to work and are independent of design. The good news is that, because they are rules, even the most design-challenged people can make use of them and instantly raise the quality of their text from bog-standard to bang-tidy.

We’ll focus on technical type in this article. We’ll discuss the intricacies and nuances of a small set of rules while learning the code to create them.

Typografie: Kern.js

Brendan Stromberger erklärt im typekit Blog kern.js eine Bookmarklet für lettering.js

Kern.js is a simple javascript bookmarklet that adds powerful functionality to Paravel’s first-rate Lettering.js. Rather than having to guess-and-check CSS and make repeated, tedious adjustments, Kern.js allows you to kern letters like you would in a desktop app like Photoshop — simply and visually. It then generates the CSS for each individual letter, which you can plug directly into your stylesheet.
