The Real Thing - TrueCrypt für Mac OS X

TrueCrypt gibt es nun auch für Mac OS X (Tiger & Leopard, Intel und PPC).

Leider ist der Server zur Zeit kaum zu erreichen. Aber im Laufe der Woche werde ich das unter OS X ausprobieren.

Eien weitere Neuerung laut heise:

In Version 5.0 unterstützt die freie Verschlüsselungssoftware TrueCrypt nun auch Pre-Boot Authentication, sodass sich etwa eine Windows-System-Partition komplett verschlüsseln lässt. Somit kann der Anwender nicht nur seine Daten vor unbefugtem Zugriff schützen, sondern das gesamte System inklusive der unter Umständen vertraulichen Konfigurationsdaten.

TrueCrypt für Mac OS X

TrueCrypt auf dem Mac kommt näher. Die Alpha Version von OSXCrypt ist mit TrueCrypt kompatibel.

OSXCrypt is a framework, a kernel extension and a command line utility that allows the creation, manipulation and attaching of a TrueCrypt -compatible volume, and in the near future, any kind of disk-based encryption available through a modular architecture.

This product makes use of TrueCrypt, the sources are synced to version 4.3a, read the Release Notes to know more about legal notices.

TrueCrypt Tutorial

Auf Howto forge gibt es ein TrueCrypt Tutorial.

TrueCrypt is a free software that encrypts data “on-the-fly”. Right now the newest version released is version 4.3. You can create an encrypted hard drive, a separate partition or a directory with TrueCrypt. It doesn’t simply encrypt the content of files, but their names and the names of the directories they are in as well. Moreover there is no way to check the size of the encrypted directory/HDD/partition. TrueCrypt is available for Windows and Linux.
