ShareMeNot is a Firefox add-on designed to prevent third-party buttons (such as the Facebook “Like” button or the Twitter “tweet” button) embedded by sites across the Internet from tracking you until you actually click on them. Unlike traditional solutions, ShareMeNot does this without completely removing the buttons from the web experience.

What differentiates KISSmetrics apart from Hulu with regards to respawning is, in addition to Flash and HTML5 LocalStorage, KISSmetrics was exploiting the browser cache to store persistent identifiers via stored Javascript and ETags. ETags are tokens presented by a user’s browser to a remote webserver in order to determine whether a given resource (such as an image) has changed since the last time it was fetched. Rather than simply using it for version control, we found KISSmetrics returning ETag values that reliably matched the unique values in their ‘km_ai’ user cookies.

As explained above, KISSmetrics uses the same identifier for consumers across the different websites it serves. In addition to data enhancement, this practice may be problematic because it enables KISSmetrics to uniquely track individuals across sites they visit. This makes KISSmetrics’ position more similar to a network advertiser than an analytics provider.

In der Vergangenheit habe das Unternehmen schon mehrfach Nutzerdaten aus Europa an US-amerikanische Geheimdienste weitergeleitet, erklärte ein Konzernsprecher auf Anfrage der Wirtschaftswoche.

Der Startpunkt der Spackeria ist also ein entschieden nichtpolitischer, ja fast sogar antipolitischer: Weil der Datenschutz versagt, versagen muß (denn der Kontrollverlust scheint ein dem System inhärentes Merkmal zu sein), weil die Welt also so ist, ich aber in ihr Leben muß, muß ich mein Leben so gestalten, daß ich in so einer Welt leben kann. Das ist ein sehr ehrlicher, wenn vielleicht auch ein wenig zynischer Ausgangspunkt.

Einige Argumente der Spacheria leuchten schon ein, aber vielleicht bin ich zu “old-school”, ich halte es doch eher mit den “Aluhut-Trägern” denen Privatsphäre wichtig ist.

Our goal is to run exit nodes with a generous policy to help the Tor network to cope with the growing interest - and growing traffic. Without us, roughly 25% of all exit traffic in the Tor network passed through one node, which is far from ideal.

• We run managed and unmanaged nodes in all shapes and sizes. If you are technically skilled, you can configure and run your own node. If you are not, you can still help the network and we will manage everything for you.
• We deal with abuse. You don’t have to worry that one day your ISP contract might suddenly be terminated because someone used your IP to download some illegal files through your exit.
• We provide private and stable bridge IPs to organizations and individuals. In some countries, Tor is blocked and the only way to use it is through so-called bridges.
