Magento Performance Tips

• move the the rules in the .htaccess files from the directories to virtualhost configuration directives
• install Xcache or APC PHP cache accelerator
• clean up your template and layout
• make sure Apache KeepAlives is enabled
• use a memory-based file system for Magento’s var/cache/ and var/sessions/ directory

From our early tests this module gave between 25% to 50% better performance depending on the page requested.

Was kostet ein Magento-Shop?

Magento-News geht der Frage nach was ein Magento-Shop kostet was ich sehr interessant finde da ich produktiv bisher nur xt:Commerce eingesetzt habe. Für einen einfach gehaltenen Shop kommt der Artikel auf rund EUR 5.000.-.

• Bei Magento handelt es sich um eine komplexe Enterprise-Shoplösung, die umfangreiche Programmierkenntnisse in PHP - und hier insbesondere mit Entwicklungsframeworks - voraussetzt.
• Sind diese Grundlagen vorhanden sollten man in jedem Fall zwei bis drei Monate Einarbeitungszeit kalkulieren um mit Magento vernünftig arbeiten zu können.
• Quick & Dirty Lösungen, die man früher vielleicht noch anwenden konnte, funktionieren bei Magento nicht mehr bzw. hebeln die Vorteile des Systems komplett aus.
• Magento benötigt mehr Hardware als andere Shoplösungen. Dies liegt hier ebenfalls an der Software-Architektur. Mag ein sehr kleiner Magento-Shop noch auf einem optimierten Shared-Hosting-Paket funktionieren, sollte man bei mittleren und größeren Shops unbedingt einen eigenen, vernünftig dimensionierten Server einsetzen.
