jQuery Fun

Zwei jQuery Projekte sind mir heute im RSS Reader aufgefallen.

Zum einen scrollorama von John Polacek, the jQuery plugin for doing cool scrolly stuff. Nett, wenn auch wohl (noch) nicht für den Kundeneinsatz geeignet.

Das zweit Plugin ist Arctext.js – Curving Text with CSS3 and jQuery.

While CSS3 allows us to rotate letters, it is quite complicated to arrange each letter along a curved path. Arctext.js is a jQuery plugin that let’s you do exactly that. Based on Lettering.js, it calculates the right rotation of each letter and distributes the letters equally across the imaginary arc of the given radius.

Über Lettering.js wird die Überschrift in einzelne Buchstaben zerlegt die dann mit CSS3 gestaltet werden. Sehr nett!

jQuery Performance

Scott Kosman hat einige leicht umzusetzende Performance Tips für jQuery zusammengesucht.

Thankfully, there are a few very simple things anyone can add into their jQuery workflow that can clear up a lot of basic problems. When undertaking code reviews, three of the areas where I consistently see the biggest problems are: inefficient selectors; poor event delegation; and clunky DOM manipulation. We’ll tackle all three of these and hopefully you’ll walk away with some new jQuery batarangs to toss around in your next project.

Drupal: Views Quicksand

Ach ich liebe Drupal Gerade noch überlegt das Quicksand eine coole Idee für eine Webseite wäre und schon taucht ein passendes Drupal Module auf: Views Quicksand.

Quicksand is a jQuery Plugin that provides a nice animation for filtering or reordering lists of content.

Views Quicksand integrates this effect into Views. Therefore it provides a views style-plugin, which allows you to alter most settings the quicksand plugin provides.

selectToAutocomplete

Das jQuery Plugin selectToAutocomplete wurde zwar für eine besseres autocomplete bei der Auswahl von Ländern geschrieben, ist aber sicherlich auch in anderen Fällen gut einsetzbar.

Using principles of progressive enhancement we turn a standard drop-down into an advanced auto-complete field. This means the drop-down remains accessible, while providing a much better experience in modern browsers – handling typos, multiple spelling sequences, synonyms and prioritization.
