WordPress: Custom Post Type UI

daily links

Twitter Pull is a small module, the only purpose of which is to allow super-easy embedding of public twitter data like: a user timeline or twitter search results by hashtag or a search term. The emphasis is on making these very specific tasks as easy and straightforward as possible. The purpose of the module is not to be an end-all solution for Twitter.
  • What is uBar?
UserToolbar (or uBar for short) is an extension built with the user in mind. It provides links and tools to help visitors with your site. Through a discrete tool bar at the bottom or on either sides of the window (similar to the one at the bottom of this window), users can search for keywords, take notes and save them until the next visit, or hide the bar if it’s not being used.
  • LimeSurvey
LimeSurvey basically contains everything you need for doing nearly every survey with grace.

  • razorCMS
razorCMS, the flat file content management system, that can be as small or large as you wish. It’s structure allows you to have just the amount of functionality you need in a flat file CMS solution, helping to keep speed and simplicity at a maximum. razorCMS is ideally suited to small to medium website projects, due to it’s flat file structure it has no need for a database meaning it can also be a cost effected method in content management, allowing it to be used on the cheapest of web hosts, or even free hosting. Start off with a core system install, then add the extra functionality as you need it via the blade pack management system. From WYSIWYG editors to SEF URL you can find the extra functionality you need via the blade pack system.
  • JooDatabase - Joomla! Extensions Directory
JooDatabase is simple and fast way to include and display external tables (collections, databases) into Joomla. It automatically generates pages containing the table data using editable templates for catalog and single entry views.

WordPress 2.9

Custom post types have been upgraded with better API support so you can juggle more types than just post, page, and attachment. (More of this planned for 3.0.)

Weitere feine Sachen:

  • Themes can register “post thumbnails” which allow them to attach an image to the post, especially useful for magazine-style themes.
  • Built-in image editor allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images to show them who’s boss. This is the first wave of our many planned media-handling improvements.
  • Global undo/”trash” feature, which means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can bring it back from the grave (i.e., the Trash). This also eliminates those annoying “are you sure” messages we used to have on every delete.

WordPress: Backend Customization

The add_meta_box() function was introduced in WordPress 2.5. It allows plugin developers to add sections to the Write Post, Write Page, and Write Link editing pages.

CMSs are for web people. Even my beloved WordPress can be challenging to train/explain to someone who has no experience working with websites. Perhaps this is the motivation toward a new trend in CMSs I’m calling “light” CMSs. Each of them attempt to make the task of updating content on a website easier and more intuitive. This is largely at the cost of features. These are for simple, otherwise static websites where updating content is the name of the game.
