Jens Grochtdreis baut aus dem Accessible Tabs Skript einen Slider. Nett, da ich ebenfalls bevorzugt mit YAML arbeite, wo das Skript per default dabei ist.

ARIA und Progressive Enhancement

The problem that we have right now is that ARIA is an all or nothing deal. And writing scripts that respect both an ARIA supported methodology and a non-ARIA methodology is going to be incredibly difficult, because we have no reliable way of knowing the status of a user agent’s support for ARIA—it depends on something we can’t detect: the right combination of browser, assistive technology, and full ARIA implementation.

Suddenly, our progressive enhancement stack has been broken. We can’t detect ARIA support in the browser and therefore can’t make wise decisions on how to provide the most appropriate keyboard access for ARIA and non-ARIA scenarios.

Oh es gibt eine deutsche Übersetzung der Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Die Richtlinien für barrierefreie Webinhalte (WCAG) 2.0 decken einen großen Bereich von Empfehlungen ab, um Webinhalte barrierefreier zu machen. Wenn Sie diesen Richtlinien folgen, dann werden Inhalte für eine größere Gruppe von Menschen mit Behinderungen barrierefrei sein. Dies beinhaltet Blindheit und Sehbehinderung, Gehörlosigkeit und nachlassendes Hörvermögen, Lernbehinderungen, kognitive Einschränkungen, eingeschränkte Bewegungsfähigkeit, Sprachbehinderungen, Photosensibilität und Kombinationen aus diesen Behinderungen. Darüber hinaus wird das Befolgen dieser Richtlinien Ihre Webinhalte in vielen Fällen für Nutzer im Allgemeinen benutzbarer machen.

Skip links

456bereastreet plädiert dafür Skip links entweder gar nicht zu verstecken oder sie zumindest on focus wieder zu zeigen.

One problem that I run into on some sites is that the skip links are hidden. It’s a bit strange that after realising that skip links can be beneficial and adding them to a site, the developer or designer then hides them, either from everybody or from everybody but screen reader users.

In both cases, the skip links are visually hidden at all times unless you turn off CSS. Not very accessible.

  • Many other rules have been further polished and improved for accuracy
