Die Gallery Funktion in WordPress 2.5 hat ja einige Probleme:

• The gallery shortcode outputs invalid XHTML.
• It injects style rules in the middle of the page.
• Even when you specify to use the thumbnail, it only resizes your image, which causes some problems with page load times.

Diesen Mißstand hat Justin Tadlock zum Anlass genommen und das Cleaner WordPress Gallery Plugin geschrieben.

Die Macher von amCharts präsentieren amMaps.

Ammap is an interactive flash map creation software. Use this tool to show locations of your offices, routes of your journeys, create your distributor map. Photos or illustrations can be used instead of maps, so you can make different presentations, e-learning tools and more.

Cloud Computing with Aptana

eWeek berichtet über eine neues Projekt von Aptana.

Meanwhile, Aptana Cloud is built to complement cloud infrastructure providers such as Amazon, Google and Joyent, Hakman said. Aptana’s initial cloud computing partner in the effort is Joyent.

“Your apps can tap up to 95 percent of the 8-plus cores on each server in the cloud,” he said. “And that includes up to 10 terabytes of data transfer per month. Aptana Cloud is an effort to complement infrastructure providers. This is to complement; this is not to compete. To some extent, we’re adding value on top of the cloud computing stacks.”

Die Aussagekraft von Verkehrsdaten

Die Humanistische Union berichtet über eine sehr spannende Studie des MIT.

Die Ergebnisse der Studie “Inferring Social Network Structure using Mobile Phone Data” des Massachuetts Institute of Technology (MIT) weisen darauf hin, dass Telekommunikationsdaten inhaltsreicher sind als bisher angenommen, und dass sie wichtige Informationen über unser Verhalten und unsere Beziehungen zu anderen enthalten können. Dabei stellten die Forscher fest, dass sich die Auswertung von Verkehrsdaten für eine präzise Vorhersage über die Beziehung zwischen den Probanden besser eignet (mit einer Wahrscheinlichkeit von 95%), als die Ergebnisse der direkten Befragung.
