Jim Williams (Direktor des US-VISIT Programms im U. S. Heimatschutzministerium) brachte zum Ausdruck worauf die Aktivitäten um Identifizierung und Tracking von Menschen per RFID und Biometrie abziehlen.

In seiner Rede nahm Williams anscheinend direkten Bezug zum britischen National Identity Plan. Das deutet darauf hin, dass Williams an eine ähnliche Struktur mit zentralen Datenbanken und einer einheitlichen ID Card Lösung denkt, wie es der britische Plan vorsieht, nur in globalem Maßstab. Mit der Verwirklichung würde Realität, was Datenschützer schon lange befürchten: Eine globale Infrastruktur nach Vorbild des Electronic Product Code Netzwerkes (EPCnetwork) zur Identifikation und Tracking RFID getaggter Produkte, nur das in diesem Fall anstelle eines Produkts das Individuum selbst steht.

Camera Surveillance Map Bremen

Thanks to the release of high resolution maps i started coding a Camera Surveillance Map of Bremen.

This map is neither complete nor 100% exact. I just try to photograph and map surveillance cameras while moving in this city. I try to get the positions exactly but I don’t have an GPS devise. It is still usefull to get an idea about the spread of camera surveillance in Bremen.

Of course this is “beta”

CSS Hacks - and IE7

With the imminent launch of IE7 your usual CSS hacking methods are going to fail. If you want to save web design, as we know it, it’s time to take some drastic action.

We should (…) be using an HTML comment syntax to selectively serve up a link to an external CSS file, which will contain a similar rule. The syntax looks like so

And then the IE-specific CSS file in question.

In theory, this system works much better than CSS hacks ever did. Instead of specifically exploiting bugs in a browser, bugs that will obviously one day get fixed, conditional comments are an officially-sanctioned feature of the browser that won’t ever go away.

Wie er selbst anmerkt hilft das natürlich nur beim IE. Was ist mit all den anderen Browsern und ihren unterschiedlichen Versionen? Wie viele Firefox 1.0 Installationen gibt es wohl noch da draussen?
