Speed up AJAX based webapps with caching

A website like digg takes up more than a minute to load on my dialup connection even though the main page is no more than a 27-32 KB. The real time is taken up by the JavaScript files. The solution for this problem is to cache the JavaScript files. Though caching improves the speed but it causes a problem when you have to update the JavaScript files, since the browser will not look for updated files if they have been cached.

Creating a search engine with Zend_Search_Lucene

phpRiot() zeigt wie man mittels Zend_Search_Lucene aus dem Zend Framework eine Volltext Suchmaschine baut.

Nun stößt man bei Providern leider meist auf php4 was das Zend Framework leider nutzlos werden lässt.

Auf der Suche nach Alternativen bin ich über What php search engine would you use? auf Sphider gestossen.

Sphider is a lightweight web spider and search engine written in PHP, using MySQL as its back end database. It is suitable for adding search functionality to small or medium sites (up to around 20,000 pages). It also works great as a tool for site analysis - finding broken links, gathering statistics about the site etc. (…) Sphider was designed to be compatible with older versions of PHP and MySQL, it should work with at least PHP 3 and MySQL 3.23.
